Node-based systems are becoming an essential part of digital content creation tools, so more and more artists are comfortable with them. Based on the numerous user requests, we decided to introduce a node-based editor for materials in UNIGINE Engine. It allows creating custom materials without writing actual shader code, which brings a lot of flexibility and speeds up iterations for technical artists.
The feature is in active development at the moment, but the tool already produces usable materials. Some cool features are grouping into nested sub-graphs and ad-hoc formulas. As for the UI, this is the work-in-progress prototype, not a final look.
This node-based material editor will be released in UNIGINE 2.14, and it will be available in all SDK editions (including free Community one). More node-based systems (including visual scripting) will follow.
