Athens, Greece - December 1st, 2008 - DHLXStudios, a Greek newly formed game development company licensed Unigine engine to be used in development of a 3D multi-user virtual world platform for immersive, parallel, cultural story telling.
This project borrows elements from various gaming genres to engage the user into an intelligent interaction, aiming not only on an educational experience, but on a complex game play. Thus allowing the user to learn and on a deeper level comprehend and manipulate cultural context in a personal narrative, taking place on a virtual, persistent world environment. Extensive level design allows the users to interact in various MMO social simulations and tactics management, for the narration to be playful and intuitive. This is a virtual platform of Earth's parallel stories and as such provides different settings and aesthetics according to the game play.
"What Unigine offers is the chance to small indie development teams to access and incorporate cutting edge technologies into their projects, for an affordable and really flexible payment plan. Features found in Unigine, are usually found in engines that cost at least 10 times more, giving the development team the ability to focus on the actual task of developing complex applications, for the latest consoles and platforms. At the same time VR technologies can be accessed without use of separate plug in modules or extra pricing. The full engine features found in Unigine enable us to create a productive pipeline, using only one environment to handle various game specific tasks such as graphics, physics, sound and scripting. We are really confident that using Unigine will help us become as creative as possible during the development process, making it a fun, productive experience for everyone in the team. I was actually hooked in Unigine the moment I saw their "Tropics" demo and was sure that the incredible quality of the graphics was what we were after for our project", said Marinos Giannoukakis, CEO of DHLXStudios.
Official start date of the project is on the 1st quarter of 2009, planning for two years development. The application targets museums and cultural organizations, offering the ability to use modern technologies (3D gaming technologies, intelligent user input interfaces, VR), to broaden the scope of their presentations in immersive, augmented, interactive environments.
"I'm happy to see that recent technologies provided by Unigine are in demand for different projects of education and culture fields in addition to entertainment ones. DHLXStudios is a well-balanced team of exprerienced programmers and artists, it has great potential in bringing new concepts into life", commented Denis Shergin, CEO of Unigine Corp.
DHLXStudios is a newly formed team based in Athens, Greece aiming at developing intelligent, interactive, networked environments for various multimedia presentations (artistic, educational, corporate etc). The team engages in all of these activities using latest technologies and constant research on fields such as man-machine interaction, 3d gaming, kinetic architecture, machine learning, artificial intelligence, data mining algorithms and data visualization/sonification techniques. Each of 8 team members has experience on these seperate fields allowing a collective result in aesthetics, implementation and functionality.
Unigine Corp. is an international company grown from an open source project, which was initiated in 2002. The company was established in the beginning of 2005 and since that time is focused on top-notch real-time 3D solutions.
Main activity of Unigine Corp. is development of Unigine, a cross-platform engine for virtual 3D worlds. From the very beginning of Unigine development it attracts attention of different companies and groups of independent developers because Unigine is always on the bleeding edge of real-time 3D visualization and physics simulation technologies. This feature-rich middleware is used in the development of several modern games and VR projects.
